āļø Weather Woes
AppleInsider
The Weather app was down for 12+ hours earlier this week. Apple did eventually fix it (server-side), but you should also know about some alternatives with more features & less downtime.
Here are my fav Weather app alternatives:
Carrot (my go-to)
MyRadar (lots of features, but could be overwhelming to some)
The Weather Channel (the ads suck but still solid & very accurate)
iOS 16.4.1 should be coming soon to fix outstanding issues + more.
šŖ¦ Is iOS 17 the End?
Before we get into this: just know that 99% of iOS 17 āleaksā are really just guesses. So-called leakers do this every year just so they can say ātold you soā when their vague tweet lines up with a new feature Apple introduces.
So yeah, take everything iOS 17-related with a grain of salt..at least until we get closer to June.
Anyways, weāre just a couple of months away from seeing the reveal of iOS 17 and according to a recent report, these are the devices that will not be supported.
iPhone 8/8 Plus
iPhone X
iPad (5th generation)
iPad Pro (1st generation)
But hold up.. after this came out, a reputable leaker called BS and said that the iPhone X will be supported with iOS 17. Along with every other device that was supported with iOS 16.
Soooo, which is it? I can honestly see the X lasting another year, but who knows. Drop a vote in the poll below
Will the iPhone X will be dropped? |

š² Under-Display Face ID is Coming
iPhone 15 is coming later this year, but the roadmap for future iPhones is arguably even more exciting, at least in terms of display tech. Hereās why:
iPhone 15 & 16 - Nothing crazy for this year or next
iPhone 17 & 17 Pro - Non-Pro models to adopt ProMotion display!
So this is the year (2025) when all iPhones, not just the Pro models, will have the glorious ProMotion display for 120hz, always-on display, etc
The Pro models, meanwhile, will get the first under-panel Face ID sensor, and the first iPhone with a hole punch! (instead of the āpillā cutout)
iPhone 19 & 19 Pro - Under Panel Face ID + Under Panel Camera
Although 2027 is far out, this is when we might finally see that display weāve all been dreaming of! Where the selfie camera & all of the tech is fully under the display. At least for the Pro models.
The regular iPhone 19 (it sounds crazy typing that), however, is expected to get the Under Panel Face ID + Hole Punch this year.
Tbh, a 120hz display is something that should NOT be seen as a premium in 2023. Itās very common across the industry now.
I hope something changes here and we get ProMotion displays on the base iPhone 16 instead of having to wait until iPhone 17ā¦
š«¢ Apple was Wrong
Apple
..and Tim Cook admitted it. He also credited Steve Jobs for teaching him to be okay with admitting when wrong, in the latest GQ piece.
Apple was wrong about the potential for AR headsets & glasses
Years ago, when asked about the possibility of Apple manufacturing glasses, in the mold of Google Glass, an early AR product, Cook told The New Yorkerās Ian Parker that he was skeptical of the enterprise:
āWe always thought that glasses were not a smart move, from a point of view that people would not really want to wear them. They were intrusive, instead of pushing technology to the background, as weāve always believed.ā He said then: āWe always thought it would flop, and, you know, so far it has.ā
When I raise this with Cook, he laughs. āMy thinking always evolves. Steve taught me well: never to get married to your convictions of yesterday. To always, if presented with something new that says you were wrong, admit it and go forward instead of continuing to hunker down and say why youāre right.ā
